What’s the Role?

As a Health Care Support Worker at Good Samaritan Hillside Village, you will play an essential role in providing non-direct and non-clinical healthcare support in various settings, including long-term care, assisted living, and home care environments. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or another healthcare professional, your contributions will be crucial to the well-being of clients and residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide non-clinical healthcare support to clients, residents, and their families
  • Establish rapport and offer assistance in promoting well-being (physical, emotional, cultural, and social)
  • Assist with mealtime activities, including setting up, transporting, and serving meals
  • Help with daily activities, including transportation to designated areas and encouraging participation
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping, and laundry
  • Support with inventory checks and restocking of essential supplies
  • Complete necessary documentation and reports related to your duties
  • Adhere to safety, security, and infection control procedures

Health Careers Access Program

This position is part of the Health Careers Access Program, which offers the opportunity to receive full funding for Health Care Assistant (HCA) training. The program spans 12-18 months and prepares you for a rewarding career as a registered HCA. Upon completion of the training, you will be eligible to register with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry and continue your career with Good Samaritan, under a one-year return of service agreement.

While participating in the program, you’ll be paid the standard wage of $23.83 per hour, both during your work at the care home and while attending the training.

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 education, including successful completion of English 10 or equivalent
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to deal with others professionally and organize work effectively
  • Physical ability to perform the duties required
  • Ability to operate related equipment
